Bigham’s Baldies Brave the Shave for MacMillan
A group of brave employees from the Charlie Bigham’s Kitchen in Dulcote have had their locks lopped off to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
The team, nicknamed the Bigham’s Baldies, were sponsored by colleagues, friends and family to have all their hair shaved off.
Workers at the Charlie Bigham’s Kitchen in Dulcote, including Charlie Bigham himself, gathered in the company cafeteria on 19th October to cheer on the dedicated team braving the shave.
The team has doubled their initial target of £500 and raised £1,145 for the charity. The company will also match all donations, meaning the combined grand total is £2,290.
Bigham’s Baldies is made up of five employees; Amy Payne, Amy Nicholson, Peter Whiterod, Marcin Czuba and Julian Soria, who each had their heads shaved by Charlie Bigham.
Amy Payne, who joined the Charlie Bigham’s team in December 2017 and took part in Brave the Shave, says:
“Many of our friends, family and work colleagues, have been through tough times caused by the horrid C word so a group of us decided that we wanted to raise money for Macmillan. It’s a cause that’s particularly close to my heart as my father is currently battling the condition. While I was nervous to lose my hair, especially as it’s got quite long, it was amazing to have our lovely colleagues cheering us on and to have raised so much money so far.”
In addition to raising money for Macmillan, Amy will also donate her hair to the Little Princess Trust which provides wigs made from real hair to children and young people that have sadly lost their own hair due to cancer treatment and other illnesses.
Charlie Bigham, founder, says:
“I am so proud of everyone who braved the shave for Macmillan. It’s a daunting task which our team took on with gusto. We have extraordinary people here at Charlie Bigham’s that have a great attitude and take real passion and pride in doing things properly; this is reflected in the commitment of the Bigham’s Baldies and everyone who has shown their support and donated.”
Brave the Shave has been running for three years and has so far raised over £16.8 million for Macmillan Cancer Support – an amount that’s set to go up after this year’s efforts.
Set in beautiful surroundings of a regenerated quarry, Charlie Bigham’s Quarry Kitchen opened its doors last year and already employs over 200 people making some of the brand’s most popular dishes such as Fish Pie, Chicken Tikka and Cottage Pie.
Charlie Bigham’s is one of the UK’s most successful independent food brands, producing 12.5 million tasty dishes every year in its distinctive wooden packs.
